Wild Beer Co. – Epic Saison

Saison • 5 % ABV • Shepton Mallet, England

Back into saison territory, my next beer comes from Wild Beer Co who opened themselves a bar in Bristol back in back in August of this year.
Their bar is loaded up with 22 taps to pump out draught beers and ciders in all your favourite sizes.
Through a collaboration with Hook (started in Camden Town, London), they are able to offer an evolved take on fish & chips to support their array of fine beverages. Looks tasty too!

Wild Beer Co describe Epic Saison as a fusion of of Belgium’s eclectic beer culture and North America’s powerful hop flavours.
I’m expecting plenty of tropical flavours along with spiciness, tangyness and much more in the way of fruit. A farmhouse ale packed with plenty of big flavours.
Its popping time!

Epic Saison pours with a pale golden colour and produces small white head which dissipates pretty quickly. The Saison itself is clear on the first pour and becomes a little cloudier when you near the end of the bottle.
The aroma is made up of lots of aromatic floral hoppiness with tropical fruit and citrus. I was also able to make a touch of spiciness and a similar ester to that of a wit beer.
Considering the fruity aromas the beer had a strong, dry bitterness which gave the beer a salty tang. As the temperature of the beer rose, the fruitier flavours developed more pushing out grapefruit, lemon zest and orange with a honey sweetness and richness on the back of the tongue.
The saison was light in body with  little to no carbonation. It was a smooth drinker which offered a little prickly acidity on the tongue.

There was a lot going on with this Saison.
On cracking the bottle, the aroma was really tart like that of vinegar but as it was poured, this settled to give a far smooth and aromatic aroma.
To get the best out of this beer, I’d suggest that it needs about 10 minutes out of the fridge.
