Hillside Brewery – Over The Hill
Mild Ale • 3.5% ABV • Longhope, England
Another beer from the depths of the cupboard and some something with a classic style again from Beer52.
Hillside brewery are big on producing small batch yet high quality beers following traditional methods. Using a range of local heritage hops and ingredients from around the world, they want to change perceptions of beer and share their passion with you.
From classic beers to Craft specials, you’re sure to find something that suits you.
They even operate a ‘Brew your Own’ nano brewery for £100 per person where you can work with a qualified master brewer to produce your own style of beer, get it ready for conditioning in bottles and produce a custom label.
This is actually a pretty exciting concept and one I would love to check out!
A 2015 gold winner ‘Taste of the West’ and a Silver in the SIBA Small Pack Beer Competition 2015, Over The Hill is detailed as being full bodied with a cocoa & Roasted malt character.
Single hopped with Bramling Cross Hops, there should be a good balance of fruit along with a mild bitterness.
With a deep and dark hue, Over The Hill tops up the glass and leaves a small yet tanned head in its wake. It settles pretty quickly but leaves a few bubbles around the edge of the glass ensuring it retains an inviting look.
The aroma is very light, giving hints of roasted malt along with a touch of coffee and cocoa.
Flavour wise, we get much of the same with a mild yet slightly smooth flavour edging more towards the roasted malts and a hint of bitterness.
Although dark in colour, its light body and smooth flavour push it into easy drinking territory making a great for a rich Sunday roasts with lashings of meaty gravy.
Sundays were definitely built for dark ales!
