Jim Koch started the brewery in 1984 and the first batch he created was the Boston Alger, with the special Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops, which are extremely fragile to grow. Using these near extinct hops paid off as within six weeks it was named ‘best Beer in America’ and even now it continues to win awards a yearly events.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Light brown, copper body with a thick off white frothy head which leaves a lot of lacing.

Aroma

Citrusy and almost grassy hops with a little bit of malt coming through.

Taste

A malty sweetness with grassy and floral hop spice coming though with some nice amounts of caramel.

Mouthfeel

Slightly dry with a crisp refreshing mouth feel.
